This course is an introduction to different disciplines in Nordic skiing as well as covering theory and field skills related to cross-country ski touring. This course will also be an introduction to telemark, skate and classic skiing techniques.

Course Content:
- Introduction
- Cross-country skiing as a tourism activity
- The demographics and motivations of cross-country skiing

- Equipment and Clothing
- Equipment that guides and instructors should carry on cross-country skiing trips
- The features of different types of ski equipment
- Items which should be included in a repair kit and first aid kit

- Pre-trip Preparation
- Safety and risk management
- Supplies and equipment for the trip
- Personal gear
- Pre-trip safety talk
- Land and trail access issues

- Guiding and Cross-country Ski Touring
- Client management
- Gear preparation including sled for pulling gear
- Navigation and route-finding techniques

- Cross-country Skiing and Techniques
- Down hill - Telemark technique
- Techniques for classic skiing - diagonal stride, double poling, on -step double poling, uphill diagonal stride

- Techniques for skate skiing, the free skate, skate turn, offset skate, the diagonal skate, the one skate, the marathon skate, the two skate
- Selecting equipment and clothing suited to the skier's level of skill and type of skiing
- Wax selection, ski base preparation, and wax application for classic or skate skis
 
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

- Demonstrate proper Nordic classical technique.
- Demonstrate proper Nordic skating technique.
- Demonstrate proper Nordic telemark technique.
- Demonstrate proper waxing technique for both classical and skate skis.
- Plan and prepare for an extended cross-country skiing trip including selecting an appropriate area, route, menu planning, food packing, equipment selection, and develop a risk management plan.
- Brief a group on the trip goals and objectives, complete client equipment check, and instruct others on ski and equipment care.
- Make judgments and decisions for the group appropriate to each individual member while ensuring that group goals and objectives are maintained.
