1. Student indicates the risks of site contamination re: food preparation resulting from minor injuries such as a cut, scratch, hang nail, burn, blister, etc. which occur on the work site or elsewhere.
2. Student demonstrates treatment for minor cuts (or similar injuries) which occur at the work site.
3. Student demonstrates treatment for minor burns/scalds (or similar injuries) which occur at the work site.
4. Student demonstrates his/her response to falls or other events with the potential for injury to limbs (or similar injuries) which occur at the work site.
5. Student demonstrates his/her response to head injuries or other events with the potential for injury to eyes, ears, etc. which occur at the work site.
6. Student demonstrates knowledge and practice of ongoing treatment for minor cuts burns, etc. which may or may not have occurred at the work site but are not yet completely healed. They are able to indicate the risk to self, co-workers, and customer/clients.
7. Student demonstrates expected procedures in the case of a potentially serious accident.
Performance tasks:
- in a simulation, student indicates the risks to:
a) self from minor cuts or burns
b) co-workers -( include risks of blood contamination)
c) customers (include risks of blood cont.)
- student identifies the risks to customers if food is prepared in a contaminated environment
- student identifies risks to co-workers
- student identifies the potential harm of poor first aid practices to the food service facility affected
- in a simulation, student demonstrates safe practices for covering cuts, hangnails, open blisters, etc.
- in a simulation, student demonstrates knowledge and practice of using anti bacterial aids such as alcohol and peroxide
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with minor injuries resulting in bleeding at the work site
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with minor burns or scalds at the work site
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with a potential sprain or broken bone to self
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with a potential sprain or broken bone to a co-worker
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with a potential head or neck injury to self
- in a simulation, student demonstrates procedures for dealing with a potential head or neck injury to a co-worker
- in a simulation, student demonstrates how to use 911 service
- student demonstrates how to contact the assigned first aid attendant
- student demonstrates the need for calm
- student demonstrates keeping the immediate area clear and offering assistance only when requested by the attendant
