NLC instructor to attend Montreal conference

DAWSON CREEK – A faculty member from Northern Lights College will participate in a panel discussion on distance learning issues in Early Childhood Education (ECE) programming.

Patricia McClelland, a Human Development, Education and Care (HDEC) instructor at NLC, will be one of the presenters at the third annual Pan Canadian ECE Faculty Forum in Montreal, Nov. 13-15.

The forum is sponsored by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges ECE Affinity Group and the Child Care Human Resources Sector Council. The event brings together colleagues from a variety of settings and regions who work in or have interest in the development of early childhood training and education.

McClelland attended the conference last year in Toronto, and found she was involved in a number of discussions about how NLC offers its HDEC programming.

“At the end of the conference last year it was suggested that this year’s conference include a session on distance and distributed learning,” McClelland said. “Then, at this year’s provincial articulation meetings, NLC was asked if someone from our program could attend and be part of the panel.”

The panel discussion, entitled “Online and Distance Learning”, will see McClelland joined by representatives from colleges in Alberta, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador

Panelists will present 10-minute overviews of the programs at their institutions, followed by an open question and answer session.

NLC offers a variety of HDEC programs including: Early Childhood Education Certificate and Diploma, Education Assistant, Family Child Care Certificate, and School Age Child Care Certificate.
