Description:
|
The Esthetics Program is a 40-week certificate level program. Esthetic training includes the theory and hands-on training in facials, body massage, body treatments, aromatherapy, reflexology, makeup artistry, waxing and tinting.
In Nail Technology, students will learn theory and application of manicures, pedicures and artificial nail enhancement. Also integrated are the basic principles of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, electrotherapy, and sanitation procedures to support the applied learning required of the certificate.
Students will be introduced to the knowledge and skills necessary for running a salon or spa.

Admission Requirements:
|
Applicants will fit one of the three specific groups:
1) High school dual credit students - Grade 10 level completion that includes:
Grade 10 English, or English 030, or Grade 11 Communications, with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Math (Applications, Principles, or Essentials), or Math 030 with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Science, or Science 030, with 67% (C+) or higher
2) Adults – Submission of a high school transcript - Grade 10 level completion that includes:
Grade 10 English, or English 030, or Grade 11 Communications, with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Math (Applications, Principles, or Essentials), or Math 030 with 67% (C+) or higher
Grade 10 Science, or Science 030, with 67% or higher
3) Adults or high school dual credit students – Completion of assessment:
An applicant who does not have the above academic background is required to write an assessment in Reading Comprehension, Number Operations, and Problem Solving. A minimum Grade Equivalent (GE) score of 10.0 is required or higher in all three. Based on the results of the assessment, applicants may be required to participate in an assessment interview to determine admissibility. Interview may be conducted via teleconference if necessary.

The esthetics industry offers career opportunities in areas such as, spa therapy, nail technician, demonstrator, sales representatives, salon proprietor, makeup artist, esthetician on a cruise ship, medical spa assistant, spa management, and more. Those that complete this program will be eligible to take the Cosmetology Industry Association of BC exam, which signifies the highest standards in the industry.

Once accepted, students are required to pay a non-refundable, non-transferable, non-deferrable deposit to hold a seat in the program.
Students will be required to purchase a cosmetology kit, books, etc, please contact your local campus for further information.
Upon successful completion of the program, learners are required to write the Cosmetology Industry Association of British Columbia (CIABC) licensing examination(s) (theory and practical) if they wish to pursue working in the province.
Students must have: 800 Esthetic hours in an educational institution (no apprenticeship allowed)
Student must have: 400 Nail Technician hours in an educational institution (no apprenticeship allowed)
Students are required to sign and adhere to the Trades and Apprenticeship Safety and Attendance Policy.
