Forest Ecosystem Stewardship

Program Details

This Program is offered at the following campus locations:
Chetwynd

Description:
Sustainable forest resource management is the goal in the woods today.

The Forest Ecosystem Stewardship program at Northern Lights College provides in-depth education from ecology to economics. We offer hands-on training with traditional equipment and high technology, for example G.P.S and G.I.S. The skills acquired in this two-year diploma program will:
1. expand your knowledge and appreciation of forest, aquatic and grassland ecosystems;
2. make you competitive in a demanding job market; and
3. enable you to make decisions that will help lead to sustainable forest management.

As a student enrolled in this program you should expect an atmosphere with challenges that are both fun and rewarding. Each week will provide you with a variety of field, laboratory and classroom work.

Our program is modular, which allows you to tailor a workload to suit your schedule. Modularization also allows greater emphasis to be placed on practical skills and training to make you more employable.

The Stewardship's job includes planning for forest development, supervising contractors, working in areas collecting a variety of field data, preparing work plans for major industries, developing resource utilization plans, and designing transportation networks. It is also an opportunity to protect the environment, secure the future of our resources, and accommodate a host of resource values on the land base.
