DAWSON CREEK – Two students in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program at Northern Lights College were the recipients of special memorial awards during a presentation on October 4.
Nick Lesin was presented with the Duane Sunderman Memorial Award, while Jonathan Ring was the recipient of the Erich W. Lehmann Memorial Award.
The Sunderman award is presented to an AME student who has a personal interest in working on helicopters, is in the second block of training, and is a high achiever in both practical and theoretical work. The Sunderman award was endowed in the memory of Duane Sunderman, a graduate of the AME program who died tragically in a helicopter accident in 1995.
The Lehmann award is presented to an AME student who exhibits high achievement in the practical skills of the program, shows dedication to safety, and exemplifies professionalism in the workplace. This award is in memory of Erich Lehmann who was fatally injured in an industrial accident at the age of 19. Lehmann’s dream was to have a career in the field of helicopters.
