Applications sought for CJDC and Wanka awards

On , In College News

DAWSON CREEK – Application deadlines are nearing for two special community-oriented awards available through the Northern Lights College Foundation.

Creative students and community members from around the NLC region are encouraged to submit proposals for the CJDC Radio and Television Community Project Award, and the William and Mary Wanka Art Promotion Fund.

This year, two CJDC awards are available at $1,660 each for projects with a cultural focus that will benefit the NLC community. As well, one Wanka award of $900 is available for a project that promotes art at the College or in the community.

The CJDC award is designed to allow for as much originality, creativity and flexibility as possible on the part of the applicant. This award was established by the former owners of the local radio and television stations, and is given each year to the project proposal selected by a panel of individuals from the region.

The Wanka award is made possible through a donation made to the NLC Foundation by the late William Wanka, a distinguished Peace Region resident who died in 1992. Both William and his wife Mary, a well-known and widely celebrated artist who died in 1984, were avid supporters of the arts in the Dawson Creek area.

Application submissions and proposals for either award should include: a clear description of the project; how the intended objectives and outcomes will benefit the community; a detailed budget; and, if applicable, letter(s) of support from community groups or members.

The deadline for submitting applications or proposals for either of the awards is November 30. Applications should be sent to Northern Lights College Foundation, 11401 8th Street, Dawson Creek, BC V1G 4G2.

Further information may be obtained by contacting Donna Kane, executive director of the Foundation, at 250-784-7613 or by email at dkane@nlc.bc.ca, or by checking the NLC website at nlc.bc.ca.
