DAWSON CREEK – Dozens of participants tested their skills during the Skills Canada Peace Region competition held on March 8-9, at Northern Lights College and Dawson Creek Secondary School.
The students, ranging from middle school to College graduate Apprentices from throughout northeastern British Columbia, completed projects in 12 different divisions, featuring 10 different areas of specialization.
Division winners have the opportunity to represent the Peace Region at the Skills BC provincial championships in Abbotsford on April 18.
Top finishers in each division were (listed in order gold, silver and bronze medal recipient):
· Spaghetti Bridge (Junior): McKayla Dawson and Leah Thomson; Aaron Glover and Rachel McPhail; Brittany, Katie, Michelle.
· Gravity Cars (Junior): Jarrod Krane and Keatton Tiernan; Trevor Bernier and James Morris; Ryan Weetman and Cole Odden.
· TV/Video Production (Secondary): Bryan Van Genne and William MacElheren.
· Architectural CAD Design (Secondary): Kelsey Wozniak; Austin Campbell.
· Cabinetmaking (Secondary): Lucas Stratuliak; Logan Halliday; Karl Kronlachner.
· Carpentry (Secondary): Marcus Bullert; Matthew Kimmie; Kyle Bourquin.
· Cosmetology (Secondary): Carmen Mitchell; Ashley Anderson; Caitlin McCormack.
· Welding (Secondary): Austin Biddulph; Branden Bowerman.
· Culinary Arts (Post-Secondary): Casey Gairdner; Brent Fokkens.
· Aircraft Maintenance (Post-Secondary): Kristin Thackeray; Kristen Piazzini; Jeff Quock.
· Carpentry (Post-Secondary): Scot Perison; Kyle Turner; Brad Haggerty.

Support from local industry and businesses helped make the event a success through the donation of materials for completing the projects and prizes for the top finishers in each division.
