The Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce is helping dual credit students with their pre-program training.
The Chamber donated $20,000 to the Northern Lights College Foundation for an endowment fund for students to get their safety certifications prior to starting the Dual Credit program. As there are many tickets these students need, depending on the trade, this will help ease the financial burden to those that want to eventually become part of the skilled labour force.
Patricia Adamson, President and Chair of the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce, said she’s proud that the Chamber is stepping up to address the needs of future skilled workers.
“I am so very proud to be part of an organization that believes in initiating positive community action by helping to get local skilled labour into our community and to proactively tackle the labour shortage crisis,” she said. “I encourage businesses to contribute to the endowment thereby supporting training for skilled labour within our community.”
Lindsey Borek, Executive Director of the Northern Lights College Foundation, was pleased to have the support from the Chamber and looks forward to continuing their partnership.
“Working with our donors and creating new opportunities for our students and prospective students is truly amazing and is exactly what we were able to accomplish with the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce,” said Borek.
“We are so grateful to the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce for their continued support and look forward to working with them to help bridge the gap between necessary pre-requisite training and the dual credit program at the Northern Lights College.”
The Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce Training Endowment award will be available for the 2023/2024 school year.
