DAWSON CREEK – Katherine Finke, a graduate of the Foundation Carpentry/Residential Construction program at the Dawson Creek Campus of Northern Lights College, is the 2013 recipient of the British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal.

First awarded in 1979, the Silver Medal is presented annually to one student from each of British Columbia’s community colleges and provincial institutes. The student chosen has excelled in academic achievement and has contributed in a meaningful way to the life of the institution, or to the community.

Finke achieved 91 per cent in the Residential Construction Level 1 program, which she completed in February. In addition to her studies, she was an elected student member on Education Council. She established an excellent rapport with all the members of the committee, including students, administrators, and staff, and volunteered to join the NLC Education policies review group.

The announcement was made during Convocation ceremonies on June 14.

The award is provided by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
