Northern Lights College (NLC) had some international visitors this week.
Delegates from Friends College Kaimosi and Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology in Kenya spent the day touring the Dawson Creek campus on April 17 as part of a Colleges and Institutions Canada (CICAN) program.
Through CICAN’s Supporting Innovation in the Technical and Vocational Education Sector: Towards Productivity and Competitiveness Project, Canadian colleges are partnered with Kenyan colleges to share knowledge and support curriculum development regarding agriculture, food processing and production, and culinary arts. Friends College Kaimosi and Sang’alo Institute of Science and Technology are partnered with NLC, Fanshawe College in London, ON, and Norquest College in Edmonton.
The delegates toured the Dawson Creek campus and enjoyed a meal at the chef’s table in the culinary arts kitchen before taking a tour of some local ranches and the NLC Farm.
“Engaging in these types of international partnerships are a great way for us as an institution to learn how to be better partners, how to share our approach to technical and vocational education internationally, as well as create opportunities for our faculty members to share their expertise,” says Scott Clerk, associate vice president of educational services at NLC.
