Northern Lights College is excited that new childcare spaces will be added to our Dawson Creek and Chetwynd campuses this fall.
The Campus Kids Daycare, which operates on NLC’s Dawson Creek campus, will receive 48 new spaces—24 for children who are two-and-a-half years old to kindergarten age, and 24 more for school-aged children. These spaces are made available by funding from the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund.
The YMCA Chetwynd Care and Learning Centre[CS1] , which operates on our Chetwynd campus, will receive 12 infant-to-toddler spaces—the first of its kind in the community.
“This increased number of child care spots really does benefit the entire community,” said Anndra Graff, VP of Finance for Northern Lights College. “We are glad to participate with these societies to provide services that are sorely needed by our students, staff, and the community.”
Having on-site childcare makes it much easier for parents to attend classes and for staff to go to work but these locations are also open to the general public, as well.
“For years, parents in B.C. were left with a patchwork system where childcare was treated as a luxury. As we enter the fifth year of our 10-year ChildCareBC plan, we are making significant progress to reverse this,” said Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care, in a government press release. “We’ve been working to turn the corner by building new spaces, lowering fees and training the skilled professionals needed to offer quality childcare as a core service available to every family that wants it at a price they can afford.”
