It was the perfect day for a cookout on Thursday, September 12, when the NLC Trades department and NLC foundation joined the Dawson Co-op at their annual Co-op Contractor Expo.

The NLC Foundation staff were joined by several members of their board and served more than 250 burgers and hotdogs to hungry contractors and community members.

It was hot and smoky work, but the Foundation were happy to take part.  The Dawson Co-op is a great supporter of NLC, and the Foundation were eager to volunteer their time and barbequing skills.

Across the parking lot, the NLC Trades Department set up Dawson Creek’s inaugural Belt Sander Drag Races. This included Department Chair, Ryan Mayo, Carpentry Instructor Stephen Janssen, and brand-new Enhanced Carpentry Foundation Instructor, Frank Dyck. Students in the millwright, carpentry, and plumbing classes were also there to compete in the races and other activities at the Expo.

The teams decorated belt sanders and raced them along a track built by NLC.

Although the races were close, the champion tool of the day was Colonel Sander, a belt sander entered by Stephen Janssen, earning him a $300 Co-op gift certificate.
