DAWSON CREEK – A number of students in the South Peace area have backpacks and school supplies thanks to the efforts of staff members at Northern Lights College.

On Aug. 28-29, NLC held its Networks staff development event at the Dawson Creek Campus. As part of the activities, a number of staff members participated in an NLC version of the amazing race.

During the event, each team’s goal was to earn a backpack, as well as a variety of school-related items to place in the backpack. Items were also collected at the reception desk at the College’s Regional Administration building.

All of the items were donated to the South Peace Community Resources Society (SPCRS) as part of its annual school supplies drive. In total, more than 600 items were collected. Along with 24 backpacks, the donated items included flash drives, scientific calculators, geometry sets and other school staples.

Organizers of the Networks event presented the items to Allyson Hayes of SPCRS on Sept. 3.
