There was much to discuss as Northern Lights College hosted Northern Health for a conversation about foreign trained health care professionals and the accreditation process.
This has been an ongoing discussion for Northern Health, as there are many health care workers in the region — including physical therapists, nurses, dentists, and physicians — who are unable to practice once they immigrate to Canada. They must go through a significant registration process, and it can take a long time to get there, several years in some cases.
Getting feedback from those very same people that have, or are currently experiencing, these issues help Northern Health get a better understanding of what they’re going through and how to enact change. The College is an avid supporter of these discussions as many of these professionals are NLC students or alumni.
More Northern Health conversations on this topic are expected in the future.
