On , In College News

Northern Lights College’s Education Council, is seeking nominations for candidates for the Honorary Associate Arts Degree to be granted at Convocation 2012.

All nominations for the Honorary Associate Arts degree are reviewed by Education Council and approved by the Board of Governors upon recommendation.

To be eligible, a nominee must have sufficient stature and recognition to ensure that the awarding of an Honorary Associate Arts degree brings credit to Northern Lights College and to the community as a whole, and upholds the values of learning and the pursuit of greater knowledge.

In particular, when evaluating nominations, the following criteria will be considered: achievements in community service; scholarly distinction; contributions to a profession or discipline; international reputation; and inspiration to students. Honorary Associate Arts degrees are not given to current NLC staff members, Board of Governors members or students, and are usually not given to holders of public office.

Past recipients have included author Shirlee Smith Matheson, musician Roy Forbes, and artist Brian Jungen.

Each nomination must be accompanied by a nomination form containing a detailed curriculum vitae, and a statement by the nominator explaining why NLC should award an Honorary Associate Arts degree to the nominee. Nominators are asked to seek permission of the nominee before submitting any documentation.
