“We’re very honoured to have these students take such an interest in our region,” said Dean of Trades and Apprenticeships Mark Heartt. “We have a unique scenario here in the Peace, working closely with our industry partners and it’s great to see students taking advantage of the opportunity to explore and learn.”
The week was hosted by local school districts and Northern Lights College.
“We included a lot of hands-on activities,” explained Heartt. “The students really enjoyed the on-campus safety training, and tours of the simulated well site on the Fort St. John Campus.”
Visiting students also got to tour local industry partners’ operations, such as Spectra Energy’s McMann Power Plant, Progress Energy, Encana, Tervita, and a golf tournament in Taylor.
“We’re hoping the students gained some great memories of the region, and will remember in the future all that the Peace Region has to offer – they could have a strong future in the trades,” added Heartt.
