On , In College News

DAWSON CREEK – Peace Region competitors earned gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2012 Skills Canada Provincial championships, held April 18 in Abbotsford.

The duo of Leah Thompson and McKayla Dawson from Dr. Kearney Junior Secondary School in Fort St. John captured the gold medal in the Spaghetti Bridge Building division.

Austin Biddulph, a Dual Credit student at Northern Lights College and Dawson Creek Secondary School, captured silver in the Secondary School welding division.

Kristin Thackeray, an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering student at NLC, won the bronze medal in Post-Secondary Aircraft Maintenance.

As well, two Cosmetology competitors received unique offers from event judges. Kaley Garant, competing in the Secondary Division, was invited to attend the Allied Beauty Association Competition in Edmonton in May. Carmen Mitchell, who competed in the Post-Secondary Division, was offered an apprenticeship with an international judge. These types of offers to young stylists are rare, and reflect excellent skills and professionalism on the part of the students.
