DAWSON CREEK – Shell Canada Limited has donated $150,000 to a proposed new trades training centre at Northern Lights College (NLC) that will be built on the Dawson Creek Campus, subject to all appropriate approvals.
Shell Greater Groundbirch consists of multiple facilities including water and fluid handling facilities, and two main gas processing complexes. They currently have two active drilling rigs, 1000+ kilometres of pipeline and over 420 wells, Groundbirch’s daily production for 2015 is expected to be over 410 million cubic feet of raw gas per day (mmcfe/d). Shell uses pad drilling technology, which allows for multiple wells to be drilled from one site or ‘pad’ with one road and multiple pipelines in one pipeline right-of-way to reduce their environmental footprint.
“We look forward to developing and building this asset for many years to come and will need the locally trained skilled workforce that this facility at Northern Lights College can provide to us and our contractors,” said Wouter de Klien, Operations Manager Greater Groundbirch
NLC President and CEO Dr. Bryn Kulmatycki said he greatly valued the support of industry partners like Shell Canada.
“Shell Canada is one of the College’s biggest supporters, and we are thankful for the support this donation will bring as it will help greatly towards the construction of a proposed trades training centre,” said Dr. Klumatycki.
Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier also acknowledged the generous support of Shell Canada Limited and other donors.
“The Provincial Government continues to work with Northern Lights College in developing a business plan for the proposed new trades training centre in Dawson Creek. As part of B.C.’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint our government is investing $185 million in new infrastructure and equipment to support trades and skills training,” said Bernier.
NLC offers two intakes each year for Foundation Trades programs in September and February with various start dates for its Apprenticeships programs. For more information, check the website at nlc.bc.ca.
