The team left for Abbotsford on April 4 for a short, but adrenaline filled trip, as they competed against Trades and Technology competitors from across British Columbia.
“These students have done us proud,” said Jamie Maxwell, Skills Canada Regional Coordinator. “The results speak to the talent we have here in the Peace Region and the sheer hard work these students have put in.”
“Absolutely the best way to showcase BC’s talented youth in trades, technologies and hands on skills,” agreed Northern Lights College (NLC) Electrical instructor Andy Amboe.
“For those that have never been to a Skills Canada competition, the investment of time and effort will create a career path for many young people, simply with inspiration,” Amboe added.
Medalists from the Skills Canada Provincial Competition include:
- Tyler Bondaroff – Gold in Jr. Skills Gravity Vehicle (Gr. 10 DCSS)
- Erykah Brown – Gold in Public Speaking (Gr. 12 DCSS)
- Bradley Bruce – Silver in Aerospace Technology (NLC AME)
- Matthew Larden – Bronze in Cabinetmaking (Gr. 11 DCSS)
- Jeridyn Loewen, Nicholas Page, Zachary Paradis, and Zachary Glenn – Silver in Robotics (Gr. 11/12 NPSS)
- Jeremy Needham – Silver in Automotive Service Technician (Gr. 12 NPSS)
- Matt Vogel – Gold in Aerospace Technology (NLC AME)
NLC student Matt Vogel and DCSS Grade 12 student Erykah Brown will travel to Winnipeg, MB, from May31 – June 3 as part of the Skills BC provincial team at the Skills Canada national competition.
This year the Peace Region team was composed of thirty elementary, middle school, secondary and post-secondary students from SD59, SD60 and NLC.
Encana Corporation, SD59, SD60, DCSS PAC, and Skills BC generously provided travel funding for the Peace Region students to attend the provincial competition.
